Teacher Training

After receiving a BA in Elementary Education and a MA in Reading Education from Marshall University, Christi moved south and has been teaching in the elementary grades for 20 years. She has specialized in dyslexia for 10 years and is currently a member of the Orton-Gillingham Academy as a Fellow In Training. For the last four years, Christi has taught as a Literacy Specialist at The Howard School. In addition to her love for literacy, she also has a passion for the use of innovation and assistive technology in the classroom. She received the title of an Apple Distinguished Educator for innovation in the classroom. Christi has presented on the topics of technology and literacy for students with learning differences at both national and international conferences.

We understand that plans can change, and we aim to be as flexible as possible. However, in order to ensure fairness and manage our class preparations efficiently, we adhere to the following cancellation policy for all class registrations:

• Full Refund: Participants who cancel their registration at least one month in advance of the class start date are eligible for a 100% refund of the class fee. This allows us to offer your spot to someone on our waiting list and manage our resources effectively.
   
• Partial Refund: If you find yourself needing to cancel your registration less than one month but more than two weeks before the class begins, you will receive a 50% refund of the class fee. This partial refund helps cover the costs of materials and administrative efforts that are already underway.
   
• No Refund: Cancellations made less than two weeks prior to the class start date are not eligible for a refund. At this point, resources and arrangements have been finalized based on the expected class size. We appreciate your understanding that it becomes challenging to adjust plans with such short notice.

Our goal is to provide all participants with a high-quality learning experience. This policy helps us to ensure that every student receives the attention and resources they deserve.

1. What are the fees for each course?
   The Classroom Educator course is $950. The Associate Level course is $1,900. 
   
   Please note: For those interested in pursuing certification with the Orton Gillingham Academy,the fee does not cover any costs associated with doing a practicum.
    
2. Do participants receive CEU for completing the course?
   Participants will receive a certificate upon completion of the course(s) that will include the number of  completed coursework hours.
    
3. How do I know the Classroom Educator Course is right for me?
   The Classroom Educator Course is ideal for those who are an elementary classroom teacher, an interventionist, and a reading specialist. This course is not open to parents or grandparents. This will be an intensive course on the Science of Reading and phonics instruction. This course will also teach reading support and strong literacy instruction that works for all learners as well as neurodivergent learners.
    
4. Is there a pre-requisite for the Associate Level Course?
   No. The Associate Level Course is ideal for those who are an elementary classroom teacher, a reading teacher, an interventionist, a reading specialist or a special ed teacher. Participants will take a deep dive into neurodiverse learners and design individualized lessons on assessment and evaluations. This course is not open to parents or grandparents.
