Give your classroom the structure it deserves. The Orton-Gillingham Classroom Educator (OGCE) training is designed for teachers who want practical, research-aligned tools they can implement immediately in whole-group, small-group, or intervention settings.
This course provides a strong foundation in the principles and practices of the Orton-Gillingham approach — a structured, multisensory, diagnostic, and prescriptive method of teaching reading, writing, and spelling. You will not leave with theory alone. You will leave with clarity, routines, and confidence.
What You’ll Learn
Participants gain:
A deep understanding of the structure of the English language
Explicit phonics and spelling instruction aligned with the Science of Reading
Multisensory lesson design and delivery
Diagnostic and prescriptive decision-making
Practical routines for visual, auditory, blending, and dictation drills
Strategies to support diverse learners, including students with dyslexia
Every component connects directly to the classroom application.
Course Format & Certification Pathway
This comprehensive course meets the standards set by the Orton-Gillingham Academy for the Classroom Educator level. Participants complete structured coursework grounded in OG principles and classroom application.
For educators who wish to pursue membership with the Orton-Gillingham Academy as a Classroom Educator, a practicum pathway is available for an additional fee. Practicum requirements, observation hours, and Academy application fees are separate from the course tuition and are paid directly to the appropriate parties.
Participation in the practicum is optional and intended for those seeking formal Academy membership.
From Sentences to Paragraphs | Course Fee: $1,000
July 27-31, 2026 • 8 am - 2 pm
A Structured Literacy Approach to Writing and Comprehension (Grades 2nd and Up). Early Bird and Group Rates are available, and can be stacked!
Strong writing begins with strong sentences. In this hands-on professional learning experience, teachers will learn how to help students turn knowledge into clear, organized writing by strengthening the language skills that support both reading comprehension and written expression. Grounded in the principles of structured literacy, this training shows teachers how to guide students through a powerful progression:
What You’ll Learn
Participants will experience modeled lessons, collaborative practice, and practical strategies that can be used immediately in the classroom. Drawing on research from The Writing Rope and The Writing Revolution, teachers will learn how to build sentence-level writing, strengthen syntax and vocabulary, and help students move from simple sentences to well-developed paragraphs. Teachers will leave with clear routines and tools to connect reading comprehension directly to student writing across content areas.

We understand that plans can change, and we aim to be as flexible as possible. However, in order to ensure fairness and manage our class preparations efficiently, we adhere to the following cancellation policy for all class registrations:
Full Refund: Participants who cancel their registration at least one month in advance of the class start date are eligible for a 100% refund of the class fee. This allows us to offer your spot to someone on our waiting list and manage our resources effectively.
Partial Refund: If you find yourself needing to cancel your registration less than one month but more than two weeks before the class begins, you will receive a 50% refund of the class fee. This partial refund helps cover the costs of materials and administrative efforts that are already underway.
No Refund: Cancellations made less than two weeks prior to the class start date are not eligible for a refund. At this point, resources and arrangements have been finalized based on the expected class size. We appreciate your understanding that it becomes challenging to adjust plans with such short notice.
To cancel your class registration, contact Christi Kubeck at christi.kubeck@howardschool.org with your registration details. We will process your cancellation and, if applicable, your refund as quickly as possible.
