Principal's Greeting

Welcome to the Middle School and 8th Grade

Middle school is a time of growth, change, discovery, and opportunity. This is a special time in your child's life as he or she moves towards greater independence, maturity, and responsibility. It is exciting as the middle school child begins to discover more about who they are and what their place in the world is soon to be.

In The Howard School Middle School we value each child and their unique learning and personality profile. We pride ourselves on community and relationship building, developing and using these strong bonds to help students better understand their own personal growth. The arts, music, physical education, movement, habits of mind, community service, and team building are seamlessly woven in the fabric of the core academic subjects each and every day. We recognize our students' learning challenges and look for ways to balance instruction in those areas while offering a typical tween and teen middle school experience including field experiences, overnight study trips, and dances. Capitalizing on ways to celebrate strengths and fun also gives us an avenue to bolster weaknesses.

Students actively participate in their own learning in middle school. Student-led conferences give students and teachers a chance to share with parents an ongoing portfolio of work, celebrating the student's achievements and individual progress. We know our students are capable of great things in many arenas and we help them show what they know.

We welcome the opportunity to talk with you about whether The Howard School is the right match for your family. Come by, take a tour, or give us a call. We'd love to talk with you!
