Our summer programs are open to all student in the Atlanta area, including those who are not enrolled at The Howard School.
Summer 2025
Academic Ignition for Teens
Academic Ignition is designed for students with executive function, math and/or language weakness and is open to all rising 10th, 11th and 12th graders. You do not need to be enrolled at The Howard School to attend.

Math Literacy
Students will engage in algebraic reasoning and problem solving activities, designed to help them dive deeper into the "why" and "how" of mathematical thinking. Students will have the opportunity to collaborate with the peers and discuss multiple ways of conceptualizing their ideas. Focus will include Assistive Technology tools relevant to mathematical reasoning.
Note Taking
Students will learn effective strategies for note taking including use of tools such as the Cornell Notes template and the Assistive Technology tool, Glean. Students will learn the value in processing their notes to make meaning out of them as well as tips and tricks for capturing notes during lectures.
Presentation Skills
Students will work on expressive language skills related to giving presentations, such as clarity and organization of message, vocabulary in context, and audience interaction. During the course, students will have the opportunity to practice their presentation skills on a variety of topics, and engage in self / peer review.
Reading Comprehension
Writing and Grammar
Students will work on individual skills and goals within the writing process (Prewrite, Organize, Write, Edit, Revise) and will learn how to use paragraph organizers effectively. Students will work on syntax (sentence structure) and vocabulary within their writing. Focus will include Assistive Technology tools relevant to writing.

Confidential Teacher Evaluation Form
A Confidential Teacher Evaluation will need to be completed by your child's teacher/tutor before your child's registration is considered complete.
The Confidential Teacher Evaluation form and the online registration must be completed before attending. You can register for Academic Ignition even if we have not received your child's Confidential Teacher Evaluation form yet. The form is located below and must be sent from your child's teacher/tutor, not the parent. Forms need to be sent to Victoria Bondurant, CCC-SLP. Her email is located on the evaluation form.
Medical Forms
To complete your child's registration, you must submit a Medical Evaluation Form, a Medication Form and an Up-to-Date Immunization Certificate (Form 3231) before the session begins. Your child may not attend unless we have these forms.
The Medical Evaluation Form and Medication Form are located on the registration page. The Up-to-Date Immunization Certificate (Form 3231) must be sent directly to our School Nurse, Julie Teachout julie.teachout@howardschool.org.
Registration
Students may register for one, two, three, or four academic blocks in Session One, and for one, two, or three blocks in Session Two. Each block is a 90-minute intensive, immersive experience in that topic. Lunch will be provided for students who are registered for Block B and Block C. Cancellations made before April 26 will receive a full refund. After this date, refunds will not be issued.

Alphabet Adventures (Entering Kindergarten)
Get ready for a fun and educational journey with Alphabet Adventures—a one-week summer camp designed to prepare rising kindergarteners for a successful start to their school year! This camp focuses on building essential foundational skills in a playful and engaging environment, making learning exciting for young minds.

Highlights
- Foundational Reading & Oral Language Skills: Children will explore letter recognition, phonemic awareness, and vocabulary-building activities through songs, stories, and games. They'll also enhance their listening and speaking skills, gaining confidence in verbal communication.
- Fine Motor Skills: Through a variety of hands-on activities, such as cutting, tracing, and building, campers will develop the fine motor skills needed for writing and other classroom tasks.
- Math Vocabulary Concepts: Little learners will be introduced to key math terms and concepts through interactive games, helping them understand numbers, shapes, and patterns.
