Field Experiences
True learning is active, tangible, and immersive. Our field experiences turn our curriculum into real-world adventures, from hands-on environmental science projects to interactive historical journeys. These carefully designed experiential trips don't just improve academic retention; they spark student curiosity in entirely new ways and strengthen the very fabric of The Howard School community. All of our students in kindergarten through 12th grade participate in these opportunities. Beginning in sixth grade, our students attend overnight field experiences.
With its focus on Georgia Studies,the eighth-grade students learn about their home state by traveling through the different regions of Georgia, culminating in a week-long trip to Sapelo Island. Using digital photography, students document their exploration, experimentation, learning, and fun by taking pictures and making films throughout the year.
In the High School, field experiences become an extension of our courses’ yearly themes. From the marine life of Key Largo to the powerful stories along the Civil Rights Trail, from the heights of Space Camp to student-planned adventures in cities like New York and Washington, D.C., and even meaningful experiences right here in Atlanta, our High School students bring their classroom discussions to life.
Each grade’s journey is intentionally designed to extend learning in ways that can’t be replicated at a desk, bringing curriculum to life through real-world exploration, connection, and discovery.
