Welcome to Middle School

Middle School is a time of tremendous growth, when students begin to discover who they are, how they learn best, and the unique strengths they bring to the world.

At The Howard School, we intentionally nurture this important stage of development by creating an environment where students feel known, supported, and empowered to find their voice.

Through small classes, individualized instruction, and a highly collaborative interdisciplinary team, students build the academic skills, confidence, and self-advocacy needed to take greater ownership of their learning. Faculty; speech-language pathologists, literacy specialists, math specialists, and assistive technology specialists collaborate to provide the right support at the right time, helping students overcome challenges while building on their strengths.

Learning extends far beyond the classroom. The arts, music, drama, physical education, service learning, leadership opportunities, and team-building experiences are thoughtfully integrated into the Middle School program, alongside field trips, overnight travel, and school traditions that foster friendships, resilience, and a strong sense of belonging.

As students grow in confidence, they become active participants in their education. Through student-led conferences, goal setting, and ongoing reflection, they learn to understand how they learn, advocate for themselves, and celebrate the progress they've made. By the time they leave Middle School, students have not only strengthened their academic skills—they have found their voice and are prepared to thrive in the High School and beyond.

At The Howard Middle School, our curriculum is thoughtfully crafted to equip students with the tools and strategies they need to navigate this stage of life. Through our bespoke, well-rounded program, students gain the confidence to become fearless self-advocates, innovative and critical thinkers, and responsible risk-takers while cultivating grit and resilience.
