Lower School

A love of life-long learning begins here!

Children don't all learn the same way—or at the same pace. At The Howard School, we believe they shouldn't be expected to.

The Lower School experience is intentionally designed around how each child learns. Every lesson, every classroom, and every support service reflects one guiding belief: when instruction meets students where they are, they gain the confidence, skills, and strategies to reach their full potential.

Through structured literacy, integrated speech-language support, multisensory mathematics, and hands-on, project-based learning, students build a strong academic foundation while discovering their strengths, developing independence, and rediscovering the joy of learning.

Our students have learning differences, and we’re challenging them to rise to the occasion — supporting them in doing so in ways that work best for each individual. We're seeking to stay on top of research to continually be flexible. What you thought worked yesterday might work, but there may be new, improved methods, so we're working to constantly develop ourselves as a faculty.
