Junior, Kaci Green, was honored by the 2022 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, the nation's longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens. Her sculpture, Under Your Wing, received Silver Key honors. The competition was presented by the Savannah College of Art and Design. The work was recognized by a panel of creative professionals and is considered an exceptional achievement and honors the students' creative talents.
"The concept behind Under Your Wing came from my looking inwards towards the significance of a bonded family and our spiritual beliefs. The work consists of over 80 hand-cut individual feathers. I wanted to create a work of art that was sculptural and conceptual. This piece represents the protection that family offers. I want the viewer to step inside the wings and feel a sense of protection, and when you step out, you enter a world where protection is not always guaranteed." -- Kaci Green
