The Howard School's Next Chapter

I loved seeing everyone who was able to attend Parent Information Night! It’s always such a special evening as you put teacher names to faces, step inside your child’s learning spaces, and as teachers get to connect the students they know so well with the families who love them.

To kick off the night, I shared the four Strategic Priorities that were developed over the past year. Your voices, through the Gowan survey last fall, focus groups, and interviews, played a vital role in shaping those priorities. The incredibly high response rate of that data collection process, along with the energy behind our mission refresh and strategic planning, reflects the deep commitment and uniqueness of this community. Howard is aligned and unified in our love of this place and these students! As I shared “JOY!” is the word I hear myself use most often when I talk about our school.

Together, we’ve charted an ambitious course for the next three to five years — one that builds on Howard’s strengths, amplifies our impact, and ensures our students continue to thrive both here and beyond our gates. With your partnership, we are poised to turn bold ideas into reality and write the next chapter of Howard’s story — one defined by innovation, growth, and limitless possibility.

We will spend the next few months building action plans around each priority. Student independence and skills of self-advocacy will be focal points. Maintaining our leadership status in use of Assistive Technology and in implementation science will be central. Teacher recruitment and retention will be prioritized. Life after Howard will keep us focused on the future and committed to curricular and extracurricular opportunities that ready every single student for their next steps. Ensuring the fiscal and business strength of our school will reinforce our strong foundation as we imagine the next 75 years of opportunity for students. 

This is an exciting time to be part of The Howard School community. We stand strong in our core values, empowered by 75 years of success, and energized by a clear sense of where we are headed. This is going to be a great year!
