Marifred Cilella Announces New Assistant Head of School for Academics

Dear Howard School Community,

I am writing today to share news about our Assistant Head of School for Academics role at The Howard School, a position currently held by Dr. Scott Hamilton, a licensed clinical psychologist. Scott has served the school for the past seven years in a variety of leadership roles. This past December, Scott informed us that he has decided to launch a full-time psychoeducational evaluation business, and so leave The Howard School at the end of the 2018-2019 school year.

Most recently, Scott served as Chair for the school's re-accreditation process, and his work on the school report and self-study has become a model for the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS), our accreditation agency. He also helped develop The Howard Institute, which put us on the map locally and regionally as a school with expertise to share on neuroscience and learning. While his accomplishments are too many to name here, please know that I am incredibly grateful to Scott for his expertise and dedication, and am confident that he will be successful in private practice.

I am happy to announce that Dr. Tara Terry, a school psychologist, will move into the role of Assistant Head of School for Academics with the new school year. Tara first came to The Howard School in 2001 from her position as a School Psychologist at Cobb County Public Schools. She served as the K-12 School Psychologist at Howard until 2008. Tara then served as Middle School Counselor and Upper School Academic Coach at Pace Academy, and thankfully returned to The Howard School in 2015 as Middle School Principal. In 2017, she became the Lower and Middle School Principal. Tara's leadership has uplifted the entire school. She has a unique ability to connect our school's mission to the day-to-day life of the school, and is dedicated to enhancing the school and family experience. Tara is also committed to continue our important work with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) to promote a community of inclusion, free of bias.

Please join me in wishing Scott well, as we congratulate Tara!

Thank you for continued support.
