Summer Programs

The Howard School’s Summer Safari Programs are an extension of our mission to serve students with language learning disabilities and learning differences, as well as an opportunity for students of all learning abilities to experience The Howard School. Summer Safari is offered to current or newly enrolled Howard School students.

Lower Learning Programs

The Summer Programs’ primary goal is to provide reinforcement of skills in language arts, reading, writing and math skills, using methods that include Orton-Gillingham, Project Read, Open Court Reading and Singapore Math. Each class will have a Howard School Lead and Support Teacher providing a low teacher-to-student ratio, hands-on multi-sensory learning and inventive teaching underpinning summer learning at The Howard School. Afternoons will consist of traditional camp style activities such as Arts & Crafts, Gym Games, Sports, Video Game Room, Drama, etc.

Middle School and Transition Programs

Battle summer brain drain in the Middle School and Transition Summer Programs! These sessions reinforce skills in reading, writing, math, and executive functioning in a hands-on and engaging environment. Each week centers around 3 off-campus field experiences, with students tying in their reading, writing, and math skills to their field experiences. On the days where no field experiences are scheduled, the afternoons will consist of traditional camp style activities such as Arts & Crafts, Gym Games, Sports, Video Game Room, Drama, etc.

Rising 9th Grade Program

The Rising 9th Grade Transition Summer session orients students to The Howard High School, a typical High School day and expectations of the High School program. The Summer Program helps students maintain the skills learned in the Transition class, introduces them to High School faculty and gives them the confidence to be able to succeed in High School. Off-Campus field experiences will be included, as well as the traditional camp style activities on days where no off-campus field experience take place.

The Howard School’s Summer Safari Programs are an extension of our mission to serve current Howard School students. The Summer Safari program is a full day program which includes academic classes in the morning and traditional camp style activities in the afternoon.

Our academic segments for Lower, Middle, Transition and Rising 9th grade students offer review of fundamental skills in reading, written expression and math. Classes are taught by Howard School teachers, using differentiated, multi-sensory methods that include technology, games and direct instruction.
