At the end of the 2016-2017 school year, Lower School Principal Jennifer Betts will be leaving The Howard School. We are grateful to Jennifer for her many years of dedicated service to The Howard School, and wish her well as she begins the next chapter of her career.
Beginning June 1, Middle School Principal Dr. Tara Terry will lead the Lower School, as well as the Middle and 8th Grade Transition Programs as the principal. Combining the divisions will ensure programmatic consistency and continuity from our Kindergarten through 8th grade, and ease the transition our students make as they move from the Bridge Class in Lower School to the Middle School.
Dr. Terry has worked in both independent and public schools over the past 16 years, including seven years (2001-2008) as school psychologist at The Howard School. She has held leadership, teaching and practitioner positions at the lower, middle, high and college levels. In addition, she has consulted with families and teachers as an academic coach and mentor. Dr. Terry holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in School Psychology from the University of Georgia and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of South Carolina. In her free time, she loves to hike, read, spend time with her husband and son, and cheer for her favorite college football team, the University of South Carolina Gamecocks.
